Sporting Bears celebrating 35 years as a club

The Sporting Bears Motor Club was founded in 1989 by Chris and Pat Glasbey.

Driven by a desire to help children’s charities the possibility of a tour was explored but the various organisers approached wanted to make a profit.

This was not what was desired and so the club was established.

Chris came up with a name very quickly:- SPORTING (for all classic cars and new sports cars) and BEARS (children’s charities) Motor Club.

We first attended the NEC in 1992, and the name “Dream Rides®” was created.

We have attended at the NEC events every year, except 2020 because of Covid, but even that year with the help of our Patron, Mike Brewer, the NEC and Clarion Events we managed a virtual show on line.

Our principle from the start has been that 100% of the donations we collect are given to the charities we support.

All our volunteers cover their own costs, and we have great support from the main event organisers and various sponsors.

To date we have donated around £3.5million and also raised many smiles.

We return to the NEC Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show again in November.
